This is a copy of real village earrings. Traditionally, "butterflies" were made of pearl, mother-of-pearl, beads, and horsehair. In this work, silver wire is used instead of hair.

From farmers' point of view, this earrings resembled a shape of a butterfly. "Butterflies" were the most popular type of earrings in Northern regions of Russia. They were a festive jewelry; people combined "butterflies" with fancy outfits made of silk or brocade. The size of "wings" depended on wealth of a wearer. So did a material earrings were made of (pearl or beads).
